What are Application Servers ?

An application server is a software that can service the requests of applications. It acts as a coordinator,facilitator and manager of distributed architecture activities of a distributed system.
Provides services that support the execution and availability of deployed applications.

Examples of application servers : weblogic, web sphere, tomcat & Jboss.
